ACB of Texas Advocacy in Action
Independent Living Services for Older Individuals who are blind (IL-OIB) Public Hearing
On Thursday, September 22, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) will conduct a stakeholder meeting to discuss the Independent Living Services for Older Individuals Who are Blind (IL-OIB) program. The meeting will be held at 3:00 PM at the Texas Workforce Commission building 101 East 15th Street Room 244.
The purpose of the meeting is to hear input from interested Texans on the operation of the IL-OIB program. TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar, Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth. R. Hughs and Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez will attend the meeting and look forward to hearing your thoughts about plans for this program.
Since the American Council of the Blind of Texas (ACBT) conference begins on September 22, many of you may be in Austin. If you are in Austin, the ACBT leadership encourages you to attend this meeting. If you cannot attend in person, please email your comments to TWCPolicyComments@twc.state.tx.us and put the meeting date and agenda item in the subject line. ACBT has prepared a position statement to help you prepare your comments.
Advocacy in Action Workshop
The Advocacy Committee will conduct the Advocacy in Action workshop on Saturday, September 24 from 10:15 to 11:15 AM. The facilitators will explain what advocacy is and why it is necessary. Then, they will show the participants an example of Advocacy in action. The participants will practice advocacy in action using the 2016 legislative imperatives.
