Conference Latest Update
August 13, 2011

Hello, everyone. We’re less than two weeks away from the 2011 ACBT State Conference, and I wanted to take a moment to update you on some things.

First, our Austin Chapter Conference Committee was able to extend the deadline for reserving rooms at the Hilton Airport Hotel at the $79 group rate, so you have a little more time to make your reservations and get locked in at that rate. After the 20th, you may still make reservations, but the hotel will not guarantee the $79 ACBT rate. Rooms are going fast, so try to get your reservation in as soon as you can.

Also, we have found a way to beat this sweltering heat wave, at least for a little while. Our banquet speaker, Ellen Bomer, will be conducting a water aerobics workshop on Saturday afternoon from 3:30 to 5 Pm in the hotel pool, so when you begin packing to come to the conference, don’t forget to take your swimsuit! It should be a lot of fun.

A number of you have asked about the color of our 2011 Conference T-shirts, which we will be selling for $11. We are still waiting for the final design to be finished, but the shirts will probably be either a light green or light blue color, with black lettering. On the front will be pictures of a blind person with a cane, the State Capitol, and a blind person with a dog, along with our theme for this year’s conference:
Education, Employment, Empowerment. The back of the shirt will list our sponsors, along with American Council of the Blind of Texas 2011 State Conference Austin, Texas.

You may order either before or during the conference. The sizes are small, medium, youth medium, large, extra large, 2X, and 3X large. There are a limited number of shirts available, so it’s best to order as soon as possible. Please make checks payable to Austin Council of the Blind, and put T-shirts in the memo line.

If you’d like to order before the conference, you may send your check to me, Stephen Kerr, at 2200 Panther Trail, Apt. 510, Austin, Tx 78704.

Finally, if your chapter has door prizes to donate for the conference, please contact our Door Prize Coordinator, Lettie Jackson, at (512) 442-2329, and let her know.

As always, if you have any questions about the conference, feel free to contact me. My cell number is: (512) 925-9080, and you may email me at:

It’s getting closer to conference time. Can’t wait to see you in Austin!
