SLOGAN
ACBT … Advancing the Cause of Blind Texans.
VISION STATEMENT
ACBT envisions a state where all Texans who are blind or visually impaired will have equal access to all of the resources that will allow them to lead productive and independent lives.
HISTORY
The American Council of the Blind of Texas, Inc. (ACBT) was organized in Waco in 1978 as an affiliate of The American Council of the Blind (ACB). The mission statement of ACB states that the American Council of the Blind “strives to increase the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and to improve quality of life for all blind and visually impaired people.” ACBT subscribes to this mission statement and works to be an advocacy organization and positive, proactive support system to Texans who are blind or visually impaired. Our state motto is ACBT … Advancing the Cause of Blind Texans. Although the majority of members are blind or visually impaired, sighted persons who share the common goals and interests of our organization are also welcome to join. ACBT currently has seven chapters and three special interest affiliates.
